Minnesota Fall Activities
Enjoy the Vibrant Fall Colors
Fall is a period of marked transition in northeast Minnesota, as the sun and heat of summer wind down to crisp and cool autumn days. Several months of pleasant temperatures leave plenty of time to revel in the stunning beauty of Northern Minnesota, and plenty of and Minnesota fall activities to enjoy.
Enjoy nature’s ever-changing majesty as the leaves turn from green to stunning reds, russets, and golds. The best way to see the transformation of summer to fall is by hiking through the many trails surrounding Grand Ely Lodge, so lace up those hiking boots or sneakers and stroll through before nature closes for the winter. See even more fall foliage by simply hopping in the car and traversing Northeast Minnesota’s many roads. You can also sign up for a color tour from various services.
The town of Ely boasts the best of both worlds: small-town charm and big city amenities. After a day spend on the lake, make the quick trip into Downtown Ely and encounter quaint shops, tasty eateries and the friendly faces of the townspeople.
Full Harvest Moon Festival
Held on the second weekend of September in Whiteside Park, the Fall Harvest Moon Festival is one of Ely’s top annual events. The weekend event features a variety of activities for the whole family, from live music and the work of more than 125 arts and crafts exhibitors to primitive encampment demonstrations and more. Take in an educational instruction, watch the All-American Lumberjack Show and grab a tasty bite at this yearly Ely event.
As temperatures cool, the fishing on Shagawa Lake is still teeming with activity. Go out on the lake via canoe, kayak, or motorized boat and join other angling enthusiasts pursuing the scores of bass, walleye, pike, trout, and crappie just waiting to be brought to the surface. Local outfitters like The Great Outdoors and Spirit of the Wilderness can help you choose your equipment.
