We’re surrounded by water, wilderness and wildlife, so there’s always something to do. Head out on the water from our full-service marina for a day of fishing, canoeing, kayaking or relaxation. Grab your camera, and venture out for a few miles of hiking—you’re sure to catch a glimpse of the abounding wildlife of Northern Minnesota. Have a great time on two wheels and take a bike for some back woods exploration and for a ride to downtown Ely. The possibilities are endless during a summer stay at Grand Ely Lodge.
As the temperature begins to cool, the Minnesota forest comes alive with color, ushering in the area’s most picturesque season. The best way to see the ever-changing landscape of leaves is to get up close and personal. Hike the nearby Trezona Trail and become entranced by a scenery of vibrant colors. Fill a stunning autumn weekend in Ely with plenty of fresh air, and a scenic drive to beat the sometimes-chilly weather. Then head back to the Grand Ely Lodge for a hot beverage and a bite to eat in the Evergreen Restaurant or Antlers Lounge. Be sure to visit in September for the Full Harvest Moon Festival, an annual favorite in Ely with music, shows, delicious local food, and more.
Ely, Minnesota is a snow-lover’s heaven, with an abundance of snow received each year. After the lakes freeze, and the terrain becomes packed with snow, the area surrounding our all-season resort turns into a winter paradise. Travel the area with ease via cross-country skis, snowshoes or snowmobile, as hundreds of miles of well-groomed trails start right outside our door at Grand Ely Lodge. Another popular winter activity in Ely is dogsledding, with numerous outfitters ready to guide you for a once in a lifetime adventure!
As the snow and ice begin to thaw, the lakes open up and Ely comes alive with colorful flowers, blooming vegetation and numerous cultural events. Head into town to visit a museum or two, or learn more about the wildlife that makes the area so special by visiting the nearby International Wolf Center and North American Bear Center. Outdoor enthusiasts can hike, bike, canoe, and kayak (mid-May) to watch nature come back to life.
